Yowell Group was first organized in September of 1978, with David Yowell as President and Paul Yowell as Vice-President/Secretary-Treasurer. Beginning as a small speculative building operation, several homes were built in Royal Oaks subdivision near Kilgore (where David also built his own home, a geodesic dome), and Town Lake Village in Longview. In 1981, the company began to shift its focus toward development, and after much studying and planning, the first phase of The Woodlands was in place in 1982. Since that time, the second and third phases have been developed, with a total of 117 homes now completed. In the meantime, Village In The Park, with a total of 24 homesites was begun in 1986 and completely built-out in 1996 and Dundee Place, with 74 homesites, was started in 1997 and build-out in 2008.

Both of these projects are planned developments for Garden Homes with a Homeowners' Association providing yardcare for all homeowners. Although Yowell Group has built over 95% of the homes in The Woodlands and 100% in Village In The Park, the Yowells have welcomed other builders but have maintained the integrity of the projects by retaining architectural control. While the majority of the company's construction has been in these developments, they have continued to build custom homes in other areas such as Oak Forest, Big Woods, Towne Lake Village, Robbinwood Place, Northgate Estates and Hollytree in Tyler, as well as various remodeling projects. Since its inception in 1978 Yowell Group has constructed a total of nearly 400 homes in the surrounding areas.

Over the years Yowell Group has built a reputation for maintaining high standards of excellence in quality of materials, workmanship and customer satisfaction, in part by employing sub-contractors who take pride in their craft and also by keeping a hands-on approach to the business. David Yowell is actively involved in every phase of planning, development and construction of each home, working with each customer and overseeing each job on a daily basis. Paul's background in the East Texas real estate market has been invaluable throughout their years in business, and David is currently a licensed broker with the Longview Board of Realtors.

With the completion of Village In The Park and the three phases of The Woodlands, and Dundee Place, the company's current focus is on new development opportunities. The success of these projects and studies of the housing market show a definite growth in the market for planned unit communities. The aging of the Baby-Boomer population and the appeal of the garden home lifestyle to younger professional families are both factors contributing to this growth.

Yowell Group's newest development is centrally located north of Hollybrook Drive between Fourth Street and Eastman Road and just south of Loop 281. The community is surrounded by a walking trail and features islands of oak trees scattered throughout the development.
